Google Analytics 4 (GA4) is an essential tool for tracking and analysing your website’s performance. If you are working with a SEO Marketing agency like Jodana, you need to know how to provide access to your GA4 account.

In this guide, we’ll show you how to invite users to your GA4 account, making collaboration easier and keeping your data secure.

Why it’s important to add users to your GA4 account

Adding users to your GA4 account allows you to give team members specific access to reports, data and configurations based on their role. With this data, marketers can provide robust SEO Audit and Strategies for your Website. Granting the right permissions ensures that everyone has the tools they need while maintaining data security.

Before granting access to users, here are four main user roles and the levels of access they’ll have to your site.

  • Viewer: Can view reports and data but can’t make any changes.
  • Analyst: Can create and analyse reports but can’t alter settings.
  • Editor: Has full access to modify settings, configurations and reports.
  • Admin: Full control over the account, including user management and settings.

For a marketer to conduct a proper website audit, we recommend Analyst level access.

How to Invite Users to Your GA4 Account

Now that we’ve established the level of access, how do we invite users quickly to your Google Analytics account:

Step 1. Sign in to your GA4 Account. Open the GA4 Admin Panel

Sign in to your Google account which you used to set up your GA4.

Head to Gmail.com and sign in with your email and password.

Then, head to the Apps section on the right hand corner and navigate to Google Analytics.

Step2. Open the GA4 Admin Panel

Once you are on the GA4 Account, Click on the Admin gear icon at the bottom-left

Step 3: Click on access management of your account.

Click on the account drop down on the left-hand side and select account access management.

Then, click the + on the right hand corner to add users.

Note: If you want to provide access to only one property like your website, then you can provide access to the user on the property level only.

Step 4: Once you are on the add users page

Enter a valid gmail or google workplace email address of the user and click the appropriate level of access.

Step 5: Select Notify new users by email to send a message to the user.

The user doesn’t have to accept, they will receive access the minute you add them to the account.

Step 6: Select the permissions you want. Learn more about permissions.

Final Step: Click Add.

For setting up comprehensive tracking tools like GA4, we recommend admin level access.

Best practices for managing user access

Review Permissions Regularly: Ensure that only those who need access to the data have it.

Remove Users When Necessary: If a team member/organisation leaves or no longer requires access, promptly remove their permissions to maintain security.

Use Data Restrictions: Limit what data users can access to maintain privacy and security, especially if sensitive information is involved.

Final Thoughts

Inviting users to your GA4 account is a simple yet crucial step for effective SEO implementation. By setting the right permissions, you can ensure your data is secure and your team has access to the tools they need.
