Google Search Console (GSC) is an essential tool for monitoring your website’s performance, tracking Click-Through-Rate, monitoring search traffic and search results and optimising your content. However, to make the most of it, you’ll need the right people with the right access to perform a thorough Audit and Strategy.
In this guide, we’ll guide you on how to invite users to your GSC account and provide them with the appropriate level of access to ensure they can perform necessary tasks like audits and tool setups.
Before we dive into the process, it’s important to understand the different user roles in Google Search Console. These roles determine what users can do once they’ve been added.
For SEO audits and tool setups, we recommend granting Full User access. This ensures the team can access all necessary data and configure tools like Google Tag Manager and GA4 without limitations.
Now that you understand the roles, let’s walk through the steps to invite users to your Google Search Console account.
Visit Google Search Console and log in using the Google account that owns the website property.
Once logged in, select the correct property from the search bar on the left-hand corner.
Note: If you have multiple properties i.e. websites you will have to provide access to each property separately.
On the left-hand menu, scroll down and click on Settings.
Under the settings menu, click on Users and Permissions.
Click the Add User button.
Type in the email address of the person you wish to invite. Select Full User access to ensure they can perform the required tasks.
Click Add to confirm and grant the user access to your property.
While adding users is a straightforward process, there are a few common issues you might encounter:
Sometimes users are denied permission if they have reached the maximum number of properties or if certain features are restricted. Check and adjust the user’s permissions as needed.
Granting users the right access to your GSC account is crucial for leveraging its full potential. By following this guide, your SEO team will have the permissions they need to conduct thorough audits, set up essential tools like Google Tag Manager and GA4, and help you optimise your website’s performance.
